Attention film composers, if you would like to learn or brush up on your use of orchestral intsruments, go through to this excellent link. At Northern Sounds they have made available an online version of the classic Rimsky Korsakoff orchestration manual. It has all sorts of examples and  can help you improve your orchestration skills and lend greater realism to your  midi sequences !

a very nice website. I found the introduction to the instruments in an orchestra handy, as it shows where to pan them for a more authentic mix!

Thanks julio. I think anyone that actually looks at this thread should get ample inspiration for some big movie-style scores. I definitely have anyway.

Excellent website. I have come across it before, and always find it useful to look through it and re-cap whenever I am composing.
